The capitals of fashion might have been established as Milan,Paris, New York and London but over the last few years since its inception Amsterdam’s biannual Fashion Week has managed to earn the city a special spot in the limelight of the fashion world.
What makes the Amsterdam Fashion week quite appealing is the fact that it has successfully married the exclusive high-fashion professional platform of trade shows and business parties to a series of fashion events accessible to and specifically created for the general public.
The Uptown programme which is invitation-only and consequently aimed at fashion professionals is mirrored by the Downtown roster of events that takes fashion to the streets, bars, galleries, museums and cafes of Amsterdam. Catwalk shows and fashion fairs, exhibitions and cultural events, markets and parties are open to the public and mostly free of charge.
Uptown programme
The Amsterdam Fashion week is a major showcase for the work of local Dutch designers and fashion houses, as well as an opportunity for up-and-coming talent to debut. This melting pot for the fashion world professionals attracts top stylists, models, photographers and designers who gather to show their talents and indulge in exclusive private parties. Fashionistas will be delighted by the numerous catwalk shows of famed and lesser known fashion houses. Aspiring models, stylists and designers can benefit from networking opportunities, contests, free workshops and coaching.
